Unique Whitehaven inspired illustrations at new West Cumberland Hospital

Night scene in Room Three, Paediatrics area.

We've done it!  Last week we installed 80 square metres of uniquely illustrated scenes from around Whitehaven in Paediatrics and the Children's ward at the soon to open new NHS West Cumberland Hospital in Whitehaven, Cumbria.  There is a further illustration on a large folding screen to be used in the new hospital's main reception.

The illustrations were produced by illustrator and designer Daniel Weatheritt in response to his explorations of the local area and following the inspirations and suggestions of local school children.  The work was commissioned by North Cumbria University Hospitals NHS Trust.  We worked to very tight timescales, having only received the commission in August 2015.

The illustrations were printed onto large adhesive vinyl panels and our team consisting of Jessica Bell, Daniel Weatheritt and Stephen Pritchard installed the entire mural series over two days.  It was an intensely technical and difficult install but the results look (we think) amazing.  Comments from staff have been very positive.  We hope the people of West Cumbria like the works too when the hospital opens.
