When art is used as a gloss for dispossession and displacement, it is ARTWASHING.
Artwashing sells gentrification. Artwashing is Public Relations. Artwashing exploits people in vulnerable communities. Artwashing exploits the victims of social cleansing. And artwashing exploits artists.
We say NO to artwashing.
We ask other artists, arts and cultural workers, arts organisations, museums, academics, activists and anyone else who opposes the use of art to artwash social cleansing to STAND UP and refuse to be involved in this unethical practice. We must inform all those whose creativity is being exploited of the truth. We must hold the artwashers to account.
Join us. Help develop a manifesto for justice. Help take action against art in the service of social cleansers. Help call out artwashing.
Together, we can show that art can be radical, ethical and political. Art can offer hope as a tool for dissent, resistance and positive change.
